forgotten bright uk hopes
return once more.
whatever happened to miocene?
a few years ago, they wre being name checked everywhere as
frontrunners in the new wave of british hopes. they
released an ep back in 2000, which did brisk business, toured
back and forth and seemed to be on the verge of breaking
through to a huge audience. then there was some talk of
a debut album and alt scene domination, but miocene
inexplicably faded back into obscurity.
now they've returned on a
new label with their long awaited debut full length.
it's an experimental and varied affair, and as possibly
expected the nearest comparison would be tool. certainly the
atmosphere and brutal, off kilter use of percussion do
strongly resemble tool's anima masterpiece.
whether it was worth the
wait is open to debate, but it's certainly worth a listen.
