Talk about a blast from the past. Those great metallers Miocene, last seen struggling under the weight of that 'British Tool' tag, no matter how ambient and DJ Shadow they took their output.

It’s good to see they’ve avoided the Earthtone9 ‘shunned so split’ road to nowhere, and even greater still to hear, merely seconds into opener ‘A Message From Our Sponsors’, that they’ve got their fucking anger back too. It’s like ‘Fits Like That’ never went away.

Because while their second release ‘Cellular Memory’ was maybe a necessary venture to alleviate the constant Maynard and co comparisons (losing the almost identical vocals certainly helped), it robbed the record of its voice and ability to connect.

‘A Perfect Life…’ is a more human experience for their re-emergence, and while it’s sure to raise the usual criticisms and derisions, the winning combination of atmospheric textures and primal rage is undeniably a guilty pleasure.
