In Brief - Brit rockers return from the wilderness with a stunning new album..

It was more than a surprise when this CD popped into the Planet Loud mailbox a week or two back. You see, Miocene were one of those bands who, like Earthtone9 and Mahumodo, promised so much but, ultimately, saw it all fall apart around their sweaty dreadlocks. Miocene, to their credit, have bounced back and, it has to be said, are a lot bigger, better and cleverer than before.

A Perfect Life is their first release in absolutely ages and, quite frankly, it's going to blow the tits of the UK rock scene. A hulking great beast of an album with more twists and turns than, well, a twisty-turny thing, A Perfect Life has a surprise around every corner. From the thumping drum n' bass to the beefy guitars, to the ambient aroma that floats into your airspace, this album is so clever it's got letters after its name. Having said that, it shouldn't be a surprise really. You see, Miocene always were the musical equivalent to that smart kid at school. You know the one, ahead of the rest of the kids by a mile. Miocene were messing with the heads of rock fans while most other UK bands were tossing off over the latest rap-rock shite. After being criminally ignored they've bounced back and are ready to melt your brain.

A Perfect Life isn't an album you enjoy, it's an album that you feel. It's an album that will send impulses right from you brain down to the tips of your toes. Honestly, the rock scene occassionally needs a jolt up its arse and Miocene are providing that jolt just at the right time. Welcome back you smart-arsed bastards!
