Locating King Tuts proved
no problem whatsoever, navigating the van via the narrow
backstreets so we could park and unload was slightly trickier
tho now where near as annoying as reversing the van into the
narrow car park for unloading, thankfully out of the back
entrance appeared a friendly scotsman clad in denim who was
very helpful.
Unloading began, I
grabbed what I could handle & made my way down the steps into
the place, the friendly guy turned out to be the sound
engineer Craig and get this he even helped us unload into the
venue, a very rare sight indeed.
The venue was pretty
cool, the stage with more than enough space for the band, the
dancefloor big enough for dancers and moshers & a nice bar
area which was where I evenually setup merch though not before
heading upstairs to check out the dressing room. The room was
beautiful, calming blue walls with everything you could ever
want inside.
Meanwhile onstage the
guys were setting up their equipment, Leo putting his kit
together whislt Graham & Alex were rummaging through the
orange box taking out their accessories, all of them working
together to get things ready in the shortest amount of time
possible.
Whilst watching them
setup a large figure was coming my way, if this was in London
I would probably be running the opposite way about about now
but when I looked up and saw the man had a huge grin on his
face I relaxed. The man in question was Dave, the venue
promoter, he had come to say hello and then told me if we
needed anything that we should just ask him.
The hospitality in this
place was amazing and it couldnt get any better but it did, a
man resembling Mother Superior in Trainspotting handed me a
sheet of paper, he introduced himself, he was the cook Alan, I
glanced down at it and it was a menu, he asked me to get the
guys to fill out what they wanted so he could prepare the food
for us.
As I handed it around
Porcelain Roach turned up looking pretty tired, unsurprising
really when they had been on the road for nine hours, well
they stayed in Leicester last night and had to face the
roadworks we fortunately avoided by heading to Manchester but
all that mattered was that the guys were here to entertain
Glasgow with their fine music.
Soundcheck began and the
sound in there was sublime, tonight was going to be a
goodnight if the pre gig ongoings were anything to go by, with
soundcheck over Porcelain Roach made got their equipment ready
and proceeded to delight us with their music as we sat down at
the table complete with real cutlery, bread basket and table
cloth.
First off some delicious
noodle soup and then the maincourse, Tony & I being veggies
opting for the pasta whilst the others tucked into some decent
looking chilli con carne, all of which were superbly
presented, well with hot food inside of us our batteries were
recharged, I opted to stay behind since doors were going
toopen soon whilst the others decided to explore the high
street.
The doors opened and the
place filled up quite quickly, the dancefloor and area behind
it full of people but not sardine style whereas the bar area
was visited by the thirsty and the curious who came to check
out what was on offer, feeling brave I chatted to those who
browsing and buying, the atmosphere in there was really cool.
To my surprise Porcelain
Roach hit the stage first, Richard their manager told me it
was a favour for the local band who had brought down quite a
few people, the people reacted well to the guys, the set was
as good as ever and the sound just as sweet as Miocene's in
soundcheck.
Inbetween sets I chatted
to people, discovering that some were here beacuse they saw
Miocene the last time they played here, some who liked what
they heard on the cover CDs and some who had simply read the
reviews and interviews and were curious, I chatted longest to
the latter giving them all the info they needed.
