(ii) the venue

To no ones surprise Porcelain roach had arrived before us though not by much since when we pulled up by the venue entrance they were still unloading, we bumped into them on our way upstairs via the sticky floor of the giant basement which had clearly been the site of entertainment the night before judging by the bottles, glasses and cans all over the place.

Well loading in was a bit of a mission, the venue was on the second floor, the lift slow and tiny, the stairs steep and narrow but with teamwork we made it up eventually, I grabbed the light stuff and took the stairs as well helping with the heavy stuff, struggling but grinning and bearing it.

Upstairs was nice, the venue was the student bar area which seemed to me to be an odd choice for gigs, it was big enough, just oddly shaped, downstairs would have beena much cooler place to play but hey I am not the promoter, backstage on the other hand was stunning.

It may have been a snooker room by day but by night it was backstage, three full size snooker tables, the room was big and spaceous with sofasa lining the walls but I didnt hang around too long since there was work to be done, the guy were setting up onstage whilst I had to decide where to setup merch.

Dave helped me out whilst the band were preparing for soundcheck, the sound in there was as sweet as all the other nights, we had been blessed by good venues and good sound on this stretch of the tour, the crowd tonight wouldnt be disappointed, well I watched on as the fine tuning was underway, tapping my feet to 'Sustained Reaction', the song of choice for soundcheck.

Graham & Ben headed off to find a shower after moving the equipment offstage, Leo stayed around chatting to Porcelain Roach whilst Tony, Dave & I were backstage amsuing ourselves by looking out of the window at the crowd gathering down below but trying not to get noticed, childish I know but it was fun.

I was in a weird mood but a good weird, one of them days when you feel confident to do anything & well I did something I would never ever do but please understand now we were pretty high up and couldnt see the people down below clearly let alone what age they were but if you want to brand me a pervert then go ahead :p

Anyways there was this girl down there, she was wearing this backless top and looked very fine from where I was standing so I ummm sent a paper aeroplane to find out what age she was, the reply made me cringe, she was 13!!! Tony & Dave branded me a pervert and kept teasing me, I was feeling hungry and to avoid further ridicule I legged it out of there.

I avoided the people out front & made my way to this cool takeaway place where I bought a 12" veggie pizza, on my way back I bumped into Leo, he was heading to the same place, obviously he asked the same man in the venue as I did.

Back inside I downed the pizza in the blink of an eye, I offered it around before devouring it and legging it to the merch stall since doors were about to open.

The place filled up pretty quick, a lot of the people heading for the stage and grabbing a place for later whilst at merch the messageboarders came up to me, greeting me, surprisingly it wasnt one of those awkward net world meets real world moments when you get stuck for words, they were all so nice & even made this cool 'miotool' tshirts which was passed on to Ben.

I chatted with them for sometime tho they kept giggling at my london accent but I didnt mind they were keeping me company tho they soon disappeared when the first band were about to come on, well there were only two bands tonight, Miocene & Porcelain Roach, I would choose them over me if I was them :p
